The California Bureau of Investigation
(CBI) provides expert investigative services to assist local, state and
federal agencies in major criminal investigations across the state.
These specialized services include criminal profiling, polygraph
examinations, sexual predator tracking, hi-tech crime and violent crime
investigations.
Major CBI responsibilities are to:
- Perform investigations for the Attorney General's Legal Divisions;
- Assist district attorneys and local law enforcement agencies in
complex or multi-jurisdictional investigations, and in cases where
local conflicts of interest arise; and
- Conduct special investigations as directed by the Attorney
General in response to requests from the Governor, the Legislature or
other state agencies.
